Happy Belated Halloween!
Hello again! I sit typing as Jim and I watch the 5th game of the world series… always multi-tasking, he is reading a book (always), taking a call from our Executive VP and watching the game. Our plan was to blog about our firm’s Halloween adventures, but there are none to report. Our daughter was a doctor and now thinks (as she is 2) that we can go trick or treating every day and every meal should have candy at it. Gotta love it.
On a more serious note, from time to time our firm gets feedback that our underwriting practices are different from the rest of the industry. We spend time with our plaintiffs and their attorneys to understand their situation and what that means to our financial investment. That being said… we live in a world that is tough at times and we are grateful today that we dodged a bullet. A few years ago we reviewed multiple cases from one law firm. We discovered today that this firm had one fraudulent attorney and now is closing its doors. Any business is one of calculated risk and in this case, faulty underwriting could have significantly increased that risk.
Thank you to our underwriting team. Your job is difficult. You are all very compassionate people that want to help our plaintiffs at every opportunity. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the employees and plaintiffs that have been affected by this one person.
Good night,
Betsy
