Hey all! It’s underwriter Ralph again. I’m working on a case now where we are considering a second advance on the same medical malpractice lawsuit. Not only are additional fundings possible, they happen daily! This client in particular was self-admitted to the ER within an hour of heart attack symptoms and then released without timely cardiac treatment. Unfortunately, this patient had suffered a heart attack and due to the delay in diagnosis, was forced to undergo implantation of permanent pacemaker and ICD (Implanted Cardiac Defibrillators) devices. This oversight of symptoms has left this patient without a source for income while they await their trial. The client originally requested a funding of $80,000 on their medical malpractice lawsuit. After our review of the case it was determined we could immediately fund the client $25,000. But that wasn’t the end of our relationship with this client! Several months later the same plaintiff contacted CMG and requested an additional funding of $15,000. After reviewing the progress of the case and speaking with the client’s attorney, we quickly sent this plaintiff an additional $15,000. This client can continue to request additional fundings for consideration.

The benefits of additional fundings are simple. Additional fundings are typically very quick to underwrite and represent a win-win for the plaintiff and CMG. These fundings allow the plaintiff to reduce the time between funding and settlement, hence reduce the final total lien amount on their case. This is a very conservative practice in our business, but another way we look out for our client’s best interest.

Hi there. It’s underwriter Rosanne again. I hope your holidays were pleasant and relaxing. It’s important to remember what we have in the holiday season, and nothing reminded me of that more than when I reviewed a particularly sad medical malpractice case recently. A plaintiff had just lost his wife due to a long battle with lung cancer right before the holidays. As a result of a delayed diagnosis, the cancer was complicated. Finding Hope Through Holiday Fundings by TT

Hello Everyone! Where did 2009 go? I feel like I blinked my eye and December was here. I cannot believe we are at the end of 2009 and winter is almost here – snow and all. Minus the cold weather and snow, this is my favorite time of year. Maybe it’s because of all the holidays approaching, it seems as if everyone is just a little nicer, more thoughtful, and in the spirit of giving.

On the other hand, many of our funding clients are forced to get through the holidays with hope for a better new year and an eagerly awaited settlement on their personal injury case. Most plaintiffs with personal injury cases are not able to work due to injuries suffered from their accident. This leaves a lot of families in a bind. With each case that crosses my desk I have high hopes that we will be able to offer funding to support them during these trying times. Hopefully we can do our part to give and have good news for plaintiffs in need. Happy Holidays to all and see you next year!

Interesting Cases from Underwriting

Hi Everyone! I’m one of the underwriting attorneys here at CMG. I am a former defense attorney and I’ve been approving plaintiff fundings here at CMG for about three years. It’s kind of the same thing, because I’m still giving money away to plaintiffs. The time has really flown by, mostly because of the interesting cases you folks have sent in for me to extend financing on. Sure, we fund car accidents and slip and fall cases, but did you know that we also fund products liability, employment, wrongful imprisonment and Jones Act cases? I like the Jones Act cases best because they involve injuries to sailors on the high seas and I’m a sailing enthusiast in my spare time. I also enjoy golf, although I’m still waiting to approve my first golfer injury case! The thing about CMG is that my co-workers and I really enjoy what we do here—and I think it shows in our enthusiasm, eagerness to help and quick turnaround time on applications for funding. Following the Progress of a Funded Case

Hello, I’m S.T. I’m typically not into posting on the internet, as I’m a private person. This is the first blog I have ever written, so please be kind!

I joined CMG nearly 2 years ago and brought with me a 16-year background in collections and accounts receivable. Quite the small talk topic, right?

At CMG my role is critical in ensuring that we manage our fundings and settlements.

BUT WAIT! It is a little different than you may think. Our fundings are ONLY paid off if our clients win a verdict or settle their case. Otherwise, we lose every penny and our plaintiffs keep every penny of their funding! You see it isn’t a loan and we aren’t a bank, so my job is not just cut and dry. Once CMG funds a plaintiff, it’s my job to keep abreast of our client’s case status. The process for my team really begins once a case either settles in the plaintiff’s favor, or a verdict is reached. Once either of those occurs, the next step in the process is to establish payment arrangements with the plaintiff’s attorney. Keep in mind, we are only paid out of the case settlement and not the plaintiff’s pocket.

As long as there are clients funded by CMG and their cases are successful (hopefully for them) my day-to-day remains very busy!

Funding Feels Good

This is my first blog for CMG. I am admitted to practice law in NY and NJ. I also admit to being the sharp witted, assertive, funny girl here in the office, going on 2 ½ years. Oh, do I have stories! But the attorney in me will NOT “breach any confidences.” So I along with the other CMG attorneys and the Vice President of the company examine the liability, damages, causation and value for lawsuits and claims. We work everyday to review cases for cash fundings for plaintiffs involved in various types of lawsuits.

Here is one… a wrongful termination and discrimination case we funded recently. A commercial driver was discriminated against and later wrongfully terminated by his employer. His annual earnings were significant and since his termination he has been unable to retain gainful employment. All you have to do is watch the first 5 minutes of the Today Show to know that the current economic conditions aren’t good for job searching now. It made me feel great to help this person through his financial struggles. Because of our cash funding, this plaintiff has a roof over his head….that feels good.

Just ask anyone — interesting and thought provoking cases put me in a good mood. I like to be busy….SO PLEASE SEND THEM OVER!!!!
